Our method
From challenge to large-scale implementation of a scalable solution in 8 steps
The ignato method structures the path from a local challenge to the adoption and successful spread of a proven social innovation. It combines analysis, selection, adaptation, piloting and scaling in a clear process. In this way, an existing social innovation becomes a viable cooperation model with impact beyond individual locations.
Orientation

Strategic alignment
As a first step, we create a shared foundation for the process. We clarify why an organisation wants to advance social innovation, which goals it is pursuing and which conditions need to be in place for the successful implementation of replication projects. This step lays the foundation for all further decisions.

Refining the challenge
Before searching for solutions, a clear understanding of the actual challenge is needed. Together, we define which problem is to be solved, which target groups are affected and what kind of change is being sought. This step creates a clear framework for the search for suitable solutions and the further methodological work.
Search & Selection

Identifying proven solutions
Based on the defined challenge, we search specifically for existing social innovations that have already demonstrated impact. We look within the Caritas network, the social economy and among external innovators. The aim is not to reinvent what already works elsewhere.

Strategic matchmaking
Not every good solution automatically fits every organisation. In this step, we assess which innovation truly fits the respective context — professionally, organisationally and culturally. At the same time, we bring the right stakeholders together and create the basis for a sustainable collaboration.
Testing

Adapting to the local context
For a proven innovation to work in a new place, it needs to be translated and adapted in a meaningful way. Together, we identify which elements can be adopted, what needs to be changed and how the solution can be embedded in local structures without losing its core.

Pilot replication
Before a solution is rolled out more widely, we test it in a pilot project. This allows us to assess whether the innovation works in the new context, which adaptations are still needed and what impact is already becoming visible. The pilot creates confidence for the next steps.
Institutionalisation

Organisational integration
When an innovation proves successful in the pilot phase, the next step is to embed it permanently within the organisation. This requires clear processes, responsibilities, resources and leadership. In this step, a successful test becomes a sustainable part of everyday practice.

Systemic scaling
In the final step, the focus extends beyond the individual location. Successful models are prepared in a way that enables them to be adopted in other regions, organisations and countries. The aim is to transform local impact into systemic impact through our international network effect.
Social innovation is a necessity. ignato’s methodology guides organisations reliably through this process, adapts innovation to their own context and takes their impact to a new level.
